Come ride with us through Pinon Mesa and the beauty of Pinons and Cedar trees and mesas and the out standing views of the La Plata Mountains. The trail has varied terrain, mesas and arroyos through the high desert platue, hoof protection is recommended and a blanket for you and your horse.

Bring your horse and come join us for a weekend of education, fun and camaraderie with other horse lovers.  If you have always wanted to try your hand at competitive trail riding, this is the time to do it. Learn all about caring for your horse while camping. Riders have the option of entering 1) the clinic only (ride or audit); 2) the clinic and the B ride; 3) the B ride only 4) the A ride only. This ride is a “don’t miss”. The trails are spectacular (and not scary!!). This will be the 32nd year this ride has been held, and the Academy is listed in the book, 1000 Places to See Before You Die  (so a very cool place to see!!)

Cripple CreekCome join us in celebrating the 77th annual Donkey Derby Days Festival in Historic Cripple Creek.  The trails will wind through the famous gold fields of Cripple Creek and Victor, the fourth largest gold mining district in the world.  Elevations will vary from 9,000’ to 11,000’ with the trail traversing through mountain meadows and forests.  Nights are cool, so blankets for your horse are suggested.  The footing is good, but hoof protection is recommended.

High above Grand Junction at the top of Grand Mesa in Grand Mesa National Forest               Rider Limit 60

 

Give yourself a treat and come ride the Mesa.  This is the land of lakes, some 350 of them.  Ride through  Spruce and Aspen forests, around beautiful lakes and lush, alpine meadows.  This is the summer pasture for huge elk, deer and cattle herds and the views are wonderful.  Located just south of Grand Junction, Grand Mesa rises abruptly to an elevation of 10,000 feet and a whole different, alpine world. Bring your fishing poles if you fish, there are lakes full of trout everywhere. We recommend horses have hoof protection as the trail has rocky sections (this is the Rocky Mountains).

Long Scraggy PeakViews of Long Scraggy peak to the East and the snow-capped beauty of Pikes Peak to the South with Mount Evans to the North are highlights of the Colorado Trail Competitive Ride!  Terrain is varied on the trails with good footing over mild to moderate hills with conifers, pines and aspen groves. Hills are studded with spectacular and unusual rock formations.  Portions of the trail are on the historic Colorado Trail which links Denver and Durango. We are hoping to include some different trails this year.

NEW CAMPSITE: We had to move the Chokecherry camp site to Cumberworths stable. The address is 1875 Coyote Drive. This is about 1 mile South of the old camp site. Approx 2.5 mile marker on Hwy. 170 turn East on Coyote Drive proceed approx a block and you will see the stable. We will have the NATRC sign up Friday morning at the entrance of Coyote Drive and Hwy. 170.

This is not the same trail as Pinon Mesa, but they interconnect and use some of the same trails.
