Donkey Derby Days Competitive Trail Ride (Type A, Two Day Ride)

Cripple CreekCome join us in celebrating the 77th annual Donkey Derby Days Festival in Historic Cripple Creek.  The trails will wind through the famous gold fields of Cripple Creek and Victor, the fourth largest gold mining district in the world.  Elevations will vary from 9,000’ to 11,000’ with the trail traversing through mountain meadows and forests.  Nights are cool, so blankets for your horse are suggested.  The footing is good, but hoof protection is recommended.


Directions to Camp:  From the north take I-25 to Colorado Springs, exit at Cimarron St. (Hwy 24), go west through Woodland Park to Divide.  At Divide turn south on Hwy 67 approx 19 miles.  Once in Cripple Creek, remain on Bennett Avenue to “C” Street.  Turn right to Carr Avenue and turn left to the fairgrounds.   From the south take Hwy 50 west to CO 9, turn north to CO 11.  Turn right on CO 11 and go to Teller 1, turn right on Teller 1, proceed to Cripple Creek.  Camp will be at the Fairgrounds.

Camp:  Camp is at the Cripple Creek Fair Grounds on Teller 1.  We will have indoor facilities available for check-in, ride briefings, meals and awards.  Both horse and people water available.  Weed free hay is NOT required.  Please contact ride management for more information.

Schedule: Pre-ride vet check starts at 2 PM Friday, June 27 until dark.  A ride briefing will be held Friday evening, including a special briefing for first time competitors.

Rules: The ride will be conducted under current NATRC rules.  Colorado law requires that out-of-state horses have current Coggins and health papers. Please bring Coggins, health papers to Check-In.   Registration papers must be shown or sent to Ride Secretary to be eligible for breed awards.

Meals:  All meals ARE INCLUDED IN ENTRY FEE and will be prepared and served by the infamous Chef Jim Ward.  This will include Saturday and Sunday breakfast and Saturday lunch on the trail, Sunday lunch in camp following the ride.  Saturday night dinner will also be included.

Entry Fees:  Early Bird entries paid in full by May 24 are as follows:  Adults $85, Juniors $70.  Entries paid in full after May 24 are Adults $95, Juniors $80.  Refunds at management’s discretion.
