Long Scraggy PeakViews of Long Scraggy peak to the East and the snow-capped beauty of Pikes Peak to the South with Mount Evans to the North are highlights of the Colorado Trail Competitive Ride!  Terrain is varied on the trails with good footing over mild to moderate hills with conifers, pines and aspen groves. Hills are studded with spectacular and unusual rock formations.  Portions of the trail are on the historic Colorado Trail which links Denver and Durango. We are hoping to include some different trails this year.

DIRECTIONS TO CAMP:  From Denver, use Hwy 285 (Hampden Ave.) to Pine Junction (past Conifer) turn SE (left) on Hwy 126 (Pine Valley Road) at the traffic light.  Go 13 miles through Pine and Buffalo Creek, and continue uphill until it tops out.  Camp is on the right.  From the south, Take Hwy 24 to Hwy 67 at Woodland Park, go north to Deckers, crossing the bridge over the South Platte River on Hwy 126, continuing another 15 miles, watching for camp turn off on the left about 1 mile past Forest Service Road 550. Watch for ribbons.

 

CAMP: Horse water will be provided by the North Fork Volunteer Fire Dept.  Bring your own people water. Certified Weed-free hay is required by the USFS, contact ride Mgmt. for possible availability. Days can be very warm and nights can be cool, bring blankets for your horse and shoes are recommended.  A small general store is located in Buffalo Creek. Leash Law is in effect for Jefferson County; all dogs must be tied to trailer or kept on a leash.  Hay and manure must be scatter and grounds raked.   Emergency phone:  Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office (303)-277-0211.

 

SCHEDULE: Pre-ride vet check-in begins at 2 pm Friday August 15 until dark.  A special First Time Competitor meeting will be held Friday night.  Ride briefings for all riders will be given each evening. 

 

MEALS: Friday night Tail Gate Gathering, bring chips & a dip to share and get to known everyone and tell horse tales.   Saturday potluck, bring meat to grill and a dish to share.    Sunday lunch will be provided in camp.

 

AWARDS:   1st – 6th place in each division and class, including Open and Novice Sweepstakes, and CP High Point Combined awards.  Breed awards will be given for several breeds, please send in copies of your horse’s registration papers with your entry form.

 

RULES: This ride will be conducted under current NATRC rules.  We will be offering the Distance Only (DO) class for those of you who wish to complete the ride for mileage only.  Health Certificates and Coggins are required for out-of-state horses.

              ENTRY FEES:  Ride Entry Fee  

                   A Ride:   $80 Adult, $75 DO, $60 Jr. or ½ prices if parent is entered in ride

                   B Ride:   $70 Adult, $65 DO, $ 60 Jr. or ½ prices if parent is entered in ride

              Deposit $35, due w/ entry & balance is due at ride.  $10 discount for early bird entries

Refundable until 7/16 less a $15 administration fee.  No show, no refund.
