Located high above Grand Junction at the top of Grand Mesa in Grand Mesa National Forest
August 7-8, 2010 Rider Limit: 60
Give yourself a treat and come ride the Mesa. This is the land of lakes, some 350 of them. Ride through Spruce and Aspenforests, around beautiful lakes and lush, alpine meadows. This is the summer pasture for huge elk, deer and cattle herds and the views are wonderful. Located just south of Grand Junction, Grand Mesa rises abruptly to an elevation of 10,000 feet and a whole different, alpine world. Bring your fishing poles if you fish, there are lakes full of trout everywhere. We recommend horses have hoof protection as the trail has rocky sections (this is the Rocky Mountains).
Parlin, CO (near Gunnison) August 21-22, 2010 Rider Limit: 60
This ride is located in the beautiful Quartz Creek Valley at the Quartz Creek 711 Ranch surrounded by BLM and US Forest Service lands. All horses need either shoes or boots as the trail does have several rocky areas. This ride traverses private property, BLM, and National Forest in the Fossil Ridge Recreational Areas.
The Chile Line is back!! This is the flattest ride in Region 3. Come ride where the Chile Line railroad came up out of the Rio Grande Gorge into scenic Taos, NM, before heading north to Colorado. Much of the trail is on the old railroad bed and the footing is perfect. Sunday’s trail goes off the rail line and has some rocky spots so hoof protection is HIGHLY recommended.
THEME: ‘Cheers for Chile’!! Friday night is the chile cook off so bring your best concoction to share with others and maybe win a prize – 1st -3rd will be awarded.

SHOOTOUT AT THE CUMBERWORTH CORRAL
Another fun filled theme ride by the San Juan Valley Trail Riders! It’s fall 1881 and you are about to ride into the town of Tombstone. Is that Doc Holliday getting off the stage? Don’t forget to check your gun with Sheriff Wyatt Earp….after overnighting in town, you will ride out early to search for the Clanton’s and McLaury’s, traversing a varied terrain of mesas, arroyos and pinons, winding through the strange and beautiful badlands of northwestern NM looking for outlaws.
