Chile Line PDF Print E-mail

Type A-Two-Day

Taos, NM    Sept 11-12, 2010     Rider Limit:  60

The Chile Line is back!! This is the flattest ride in Region 3. Come ride where the Chile Line railroad came up out of the Rio Grande Gorge into scenic Taos, NM, before heading north to Colorado. Much of the trail is on the old railroad bed and the footing is perfect. Sunday’s trail goes off the rail line and has some rocky spots so hoof protection is HIGHLY recommended.

THEME: ‘Cheers for Chile’!!  Friday night is the chile cook off so bring your best concoction to share with others and maybe win a prize – 1st -3rd will be awarded.

DIRECTIONS: From the north take 285 south from Tres Piedras 20.5 mi. Take 567 east 2.5 miles to turn of for ride camp.
From Taos take hwy 64 west, approx .5 miles west of the gorge bridge turn left onto  CR-CB-115 south to 567. Turn right  towards Carson.(CR-CB-115 is newly paved!!) Camp turn off will be on your right 2mi past the Carson post office
From the South take 285 north out of Espanola to 567. DO NOT TRY AND PULL A TRAILER UP 567 FROM PILAR! The road is not paved coming out of the gorge and is very narrow with switchbacks and WILL NOT ACCOMMODATE A BIG TRAILER.

CAMP FACILITIES: Horse water will be provided, bring your own people water and blankets for your horse. This is a primitive campsite, no electricity available. Porta potties will be provided.
Special treat Sat after the ride- we will have a camp horse sitter for those who want to go soak at the Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs down the road.
